Market Overview

Traditionally the high school and college athletes have been considered "healthy" groups and are, therefore, relatively ignored from a medical surveillance perspective.  However, LHF initial studies have shown that as many as 30% to 40% of such youths already have one or more abnormalities detected.

The on-campus range of screenings include:

  • Health history

  • Echocardiogram

  • Electrocardiogram

  • Pulmonary function

  • Cholesterol analysis

  • Cardio risk score

  • Blood Glucose

  • Body fat and body mass index

  • Vital signs (including blood pressure analysis)

  • Nutrition Survey

  • Exercise Status

Professional athletes are a highly selected group of people.  The competition for relatively few slots on a team is intense.  In the current era, the market demand has driven professional sports into the world of high finance and big stage entertainment.  In this milieu, the premium is on performance and winning.  It appears that "bigger" is better.  The LHF is analyzing the health situation to attempt separation of fact and fiction.  There is a clear need to be open and transparent in this evaluation process.
